Best AI Product Description Generators (2026): Compared for Ecommerce Catalogs
Shopify Magic, chat assistants, Jasper, Copy.ai, Hypotenuse AI, Describely, PIM-native AI and AndromedAI, compared on what matters at catalog scale: data in, brand rules, accuracy and publishing.
By Alberto Barberis, Founder and CEO, AndromedAI · Updated October 2026
The short answer
The best AI product description generator is the one that reads your real product data, follows written brand rules and checks facts before publishing. Shopify Magic and chat assistants suit a few products. Describely and Hypotenuse AI suit bulk catalog work. PIM-native AI suits Akeneo or Salsify users, and AndromedAI suits multi-market catalogs optimizing for search and AI.
How to choose an AI product description generator
Judge an AI product description generator by what it reads before it writes. The inputs it accepts, the rules it follows and where the text ends up decide whether you can publish its output at catalog scale.
Most roundups rank these tools on how nice the sample copy sounds. That's the wrong test. Any modern model writes a fluent paragraph about a linen shirt. The hard part is writing the right paragraph about your linen shirt 4,000 times without inventing a fabric weight.
When a team asks us which tool to use, we check six things. None of them is prose quality.
- Product data in
Reads your real attributes from a CSV, feed, PIM or spec sheet PDF, not just keywords typed into a box.
- Brand rules
Tone is the easy part. Look for banned words, a glossary and examples it actually follows.
- Accuracy checks
Catches "100% cotton" when the
materialfield says 60% cotton, 40% polyester. - Keywords and intent
Works from real search demand and shopper questions instead of guessing.
- Bulk and languages
Handles thousands of SKUs with variants, and writes natively per market.
- Publishing and review
Writes back to your store, PIM or feed after an approval step, with no copy and paste.
The reader you're actually writing for
Software reads a description before a person does. Merchant Center wants the important details in the first 160 to 500 characters, with no promotional text (Google Merchant Center Help). OpenAI's feed spec asks for a factual, plain text description plus separate fields such as material and color (OpenAI Commerce feed spec).
The description has to agree with the structured fields and with the page. In Salsify's 2025 survey of US and UK shoppers, 71% had returned items over inaccurate descriptions (Salsify).
The assistant can only cite what the listing states. Write "perfect for any adventure" instead of the rating and the weight, and you've lost the sale.
Run your own test before you buy
Never pick a generator from a vendor demo. Run one product set through your shortlist and score the output against our guide on how to write product descriptions, using the product description template for that category as the benchmark.
- 1
Pick 20 real SKUs
Include one with variants, one with thin data and one regulated product if you sell cosmetics or supplements.
- 2
Feed every tool the same inputs
Same attribute export, same brand guidelines, same keywords. Otherwise you're testing your prompts.
- 3
Check facts first
Mark every claim the data doesn't support. One invented spec per 20 products is too many at 5,000 SKUs.
- 4
Check the second language
A native speaker spots translated size guides and literal idioms in minutes.
- 5
Time the round trip
Minutes from export to published product, review included. That's your real cost.
AI product description generators compared
Six types of tool cover most of the market. The table compares them on the criteria above, using what each vendor publishes on its own site as of October 2026.
We didn't benchmark these tools hands-on or score them. Everything below comes from vendor sites, linked in each section. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, the table says so.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Built for | Single products in Shopify admin | Any writing task | Marketing content teams | Ecommerce catalogs | Teams already on that PIM | Catalog performance for search and AI |
| Input | A few keywords | Whatever you paste | Prompts, uploaded data | Catalog import, store connectors | PIM attributes and assets | CSV, feeds, PIM, ERP, PDF spec sheets, API |
| Brand rules | Preset or custom tone | Per conversation | Brand Voice features | Content rules, brand guidelines | Prompt templates, reference data | Brand Kit: banned words, glossary |

The AndromedAI column is ours, so read it with that in mind. It isn't the right pick for every scenario below.
Built-in and general tools: Shopify Magic and AI assistants
Shopify Magic and general chat assistants cost little or nothing extra and are great for a handful of products. They don't read your catalog data, enforce brand rules across SKUs or publish in bulk.
Shopify Magic
Shopify's built-in generator writes a description from a few keywords in the product editor. It's included in Shopify plans, and Shopify lists bulk editing and multi-language generation as unsupported (Shopify App Store). You pick from five preset tones (Expert, Playful, Sophisticated, Persuasive, Supportive) or describe your own, and you can add instructions on length and format (Shopify Help Center). For other languages Shopify points you to its Translate & Adapt app, which auto-translates up to two languages for free (Shopify App Store).
Best for: small Shopify stores adding products one at a time. Limits: it works from what you type, not your metafields or supplier data.
General chat assistants
ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini write well and follow detailed instructions. ChatGPT, for example, has a free tier and paid plans priced per user per month (ChatGPT pricing). Paste a spec sheet and you'll get a usable draft. Our free product description generator page has a copy-ready prompt template for exactly this.
The trouble starts at product 50. Each chat forgets your rules, nothing checks output against the source data, and there's no path back into your store. Google warns that generative models "predict a likely sequence of words" and asks you to fact-check AI content, metadata included (Google Search Central).
Best for: one-off launches and testing a prompt before you scale it. Amazon's seller tool, which drafts listings from "a few keywords or sentences" (CNBC), has the same limit inside one channel.
Marketing writing platforms: Jasper and Copy.ai
Jasper and Copy.ai are content platforms for marketing teams. They're strong on brand voice and campaign work; product descriptions are one use case among many.
Jasper
Jasper's Pro plan is $59 per seat per month billed yearly, or $69 billed monthly, with two Brand Voices. Business is priced on request and adds unlimited voices, Jasper Grid and API access. Jasper says it handles content in over 30 languages (Jasper pricing, as of October 2026). Its pricing page doesn't mention product descriptions or catalog imports.
Best for: one team writing campaigns and some product copy in a single brand voice. Limits: you bring the product data, and per-SKU publishing needs the API.
Copy.ai
Copy.ai's Chat plan is $24 per month billed annually ($29 monthly) for five seats. Workflows, the feature Copy.ai recommends for product descriptions at scale, come with credits on the Growth plan from $1,000 per month billed annually (Copy.ai pricing, as of October 2026). Copy.ai suggests one workflow per sales channel with its own tone and character limits (Copy.ai blog).
Best for: teams already running GTM workflows in Copy.ai. Limits: catalog-specific checks are yours to build.
Brand voice tools get too much credit in product copy. Voice matters on a hero page. On 3,000 socks, the composition and size range matter far more than a "playful" tone.
Ecommerce-specialist generators: Hypotenuse AI and Describely
These tools are built for catalogs. They import products in bulk, apply content rules and connect to stores and PIMs, which puts them closest to what most ecommerce teams need.
Hypotenuse AI
Hypotenuse now describes itself as an AI-first PIM for ecommerce. It bulk-generates and enriches catalogs, fills missing attributes from "the web, UPC, and spec sheets" and pulls details like color from product images. Integrations include Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Akeneo, Salsify, BigCommerce and more (Hypotenuse AI). Both plans are priced on request by catalog size and scope. Both list 40+ languages; brand voice training is on the enterprise plan (Hypotenuse AI pricing, as of October 2026).
Strengths over AndromedAI: more languages, image-based attribute extraction and a PIM of its own if you don't have one.
Describely
Describely publishes the simplest pricing in this group: $0.75 per product for up to 500 products, with the first five free, and custom pricing above 500 SKUs. It connects to Shopify, WooCommerce, Akeneo, Wix or Squarespace, or takes a CSV (Describely pricing, as of October 2026). Its Content Rules set length, tone, language, bullet count (3 to 10) and restricted keywords for bulk runs (Describely Help Center).
Best for: small and mid-size catalogs that want predictable per-product cost and a fast start.
What to ask both
Merchant Center requires AI-generated descriptions in structured_description, with digital_source_type set to trained_algorithmic_media (Google Merchant Center Help). Ask every vendor on your shortlist, us included, how their feed output handles it.
PIM-native AI: Akeneo and Salsify
If your product data already lives in Akeneo or Salsify, their built-in AI is the shortest path from attributes to text. The generation is only as good as your prompts and the data in the PIM.
Akeneo's AI Configurations, under Settings, generate content for a target attribute from source attributes, assets (PDFs up to their first 20 pages) and an instruction prompt. Brand guidelines can come from reference entities. An Akeneo-managed model (currently GPT 4.1 Mini) is included under a fair-usage policy, and a paid Bring Your Own Key add-on adds OpenAI or Anthropic models (Akeneo Help Center). Pricing is on request.
Salsify launched its OpenAI Accelerator in 2023. Prompts in Salsify Workflow pull product and retailer data from the PIM, and humans review the output (Salsify). Pricing is on request.
Best for: teams whose PIM is the source of truth, with someone to own prompts per product family. Stronger than a separate tool on: no new system and no sync.
Limits: a PIM stores and syndicates data well. Deciding which keywords and shopper questions each page should cover is a different job, and in our audits that's where PIM-generated copy usually falls short. More on this split in Akeneo, Salsify, Plytix: how AndromedAI works with your PIM and the PIM guide.
AndromedAI: Creator and Optimizer
AndromedAI generates and optimizes product pages from catalog data with brand rules and AI checks built in, then publishes to your store, PIM or Merchant Center.
Two products do the writing. Creator builds complete product pages from brand or supplier data in 12 languages. Optimizer rewrites existing titles, descriptions, bullets and FAQs, extracts attributes from the text and adds the use cases and intents shoppers ask about. The Brand Kit holds tone of voice, rules, examples, glossary and banned words. AI checks score every output, and anything above 4.0 on the AI Checker can be auto-approved.
It imports from spreadsheets, Shopify, Akeneo, ERPs such as SAP, PDF spec sheets, XML or JSON feeds and the REST API. It publishes to Shopify (native app), Google Merchant Center, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce, Shopware, Akeneo, Plytix and WooCommerce (integrations), and generates Merchant Center conversational attributes.

Global MarkWhich AI product description generator should you pick
Match the tool to your catalog size and where your data lives. The data source decides more than the writing model does.
| Scenario | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Under 100 products, Shopify only | Shopify Magic or a chat assistant | Included or cheap, and you can review every page by hand |
| A few hundred SKUs, one or two languages | Describely or Hypotenuse | Bulk runs and store connectors at a predictable cost |
| Product copy is one part of a big content program | Jasper or Copy.ai | One brand voice across campaigns and product pages |
| Akeneo or Salsify is your source of truth | The PIM's built-in AI first | No new system; add a specialist tool if keyword and intent coverage stay thin |
| Thousands of SKUs in several markets, with search and AI visibility goals | AndromedAI | Catalog data in, brand rules and AI checks, publishing to store or PIM |
Whichever tool you pick, fix the inputs first. A generator can't state a fabric weight that isn't in your data, and it will invent one if your prompt asks for "detailed" copy. The guide on how to write product descriptions lists the fields every description should be built from. Before you sign, check how each tool's output reaches your Google Merchant Center feed, or run 3 pages through the free AI Readiness Audit to see what's missing first.
FAQ
It depends on catalog size and where your data lives. Shopify Magic or a chat assistant covers a few dozen products. Describely and Hypotenuse AI handle bulk catalogs, Akeneo and Salsify users can start with built-in PIM AI, and AndromedAI fits large multi-market catalogs optimizing for Google and AI assistants.
Yes, a few. Shopify includes Magic in its plans, the big chat assistants have free tiers, and Describely gives the first five products free. Free tools rarely read your catalog data or check facts against it, so review every output by hand before it goes live, especially specs like materials, sizes and care instructions.
Yes, if you give it the full spec sheet and clear brand rules. It works well for a handful of products. At catalog scale you paste the rules into every session, check every fact yourself and copy the text back into your store by hand, which is exactly the work dedicated generators are built to remove.
Google's guidance accepts AI as a writing aid but asks you to fact-check the output, and generating many pages without adding value can breach its scaled content abuse policy. In Merchant Center, descriptions created with generative AI must be sent in the structured_description attribute with digital_source_type set to trained_algorithmic_media.
Run the same 20 real products through each shortlisted tool with identical inputs: the same attribute export, brand guidelines and keywords. Count unsupported claims first, since one invented spec matters more than style. Then check attribute coverage and a second language, and time the trip from export to published page.
